The Markham District Veterans Association (MDVA) was established in 1949 with the aim of perpetuating the friendships, associations and memories of the veterans of the Armed Forces of Canada, Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, Allied Services, and Reserve Forces.
Originally, membership was only available for Veterans and their immediate families. Some years ago, this was expanded to include members of the police, fire, ambulance, public safety and emergency services in Canada. Today, membership is open to all who subscribe to the same values as the MDVA and who are willing to further it’s aims and objectives as outlined in the ABOUT US section of the website.
Located in Markham Village, the MDVA is a vibrant and comfortable home-away-from-home for all of its Members and their guests. We have often been called the ‘best kept secret’ in town.
The MDVA building has two levels. The Club and Unionville Rooms on the lower level are for the use of Members and feature a bar, pool table, darts and cards. The lower level is open Monday through Saturday and provides Members, and their guests, an opportunity to get together, have a drink and socialize. Drink prices at the MDVA are the lowest in town!
The upper level has a banquet hall, with a bar and kitchen, and is available for rent. It is also used for the Members General Meeting each month.
Our Members are involved in community projects, events and parades, fundraising activities, and support to community members in need. We have recreational functions for our members to participate in and many GREAT social functions for members, their guests and the community to enjoy. Members enjoy a monthly newsletter, as well as periodic email blasts, that keep them informed of all MDVA activities and the health and well being of Members.
